Will “The Visit” live up to the trailer?
You make one amazing film and try to hold a candle to it. Hell, even try to get a spark. It’s not easy. Ever since M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Sixth Sense” it seems the high praise has been dulled to a “meh.” I did think “Unbreakable” was underrated. It was, after all, before the culture decided it collectively wanted to spend weekends watching superhero movies, collecting superhero toys, dressing up like superheroes or…zombies. I suspect “Unbreakable” would have pulled much more respect today than in 200o. 15 years? It’s been that long?
Well, M. Night Shyamalan has a new film opening up today called “The Visit.” It’s a film about kids who visit their grandparents and are terrorized by their odd rules and bad habits. Sounds about right. You’re young, they are old and everyone’s teeth are falling out! At the writing of this article “The Visit” is pulling 63% on the Tomato Meter, better that I suspect any of Shyamalan’s film has done in a while. We’ll see if it holds. Going to the movies in the fall is about the best thing you can do once you have exhausted all the hiking, and I doubt may of us have done that. Still, movies are great!
In the spirit of opening weekend, we thought we’d let you tell us which of his films you may actually, secretly admire no matter what the film snobs say.
