Sia opened up about being a mother to two black teenagers who were aging out of foster care and how she’s now a grandmother.
“I’m just immediately horrified. No, I’m cool. They call me Nana. I’m trying to get them to call me Lovey, like Kris [Jenner]. I’m like, ‘Call me Lovey,’” says Sia.
Sia says she learned a lot during her deep dive into the foster care process and she had to adopt strict boundaries while parenting to her sons, “I would say, ‘You could do this, or you could go back to where you came from,’ which is not a nice life…I have no other agenda other than the fact that I love you. I don’t want to see you in prison.’ “
Sia says she’s embarrassed that it took her adopting two black children for her to understand her white privilege and to understand what black men go through on a daily basis.
