Can you believe that 1997 was 20 YEARS AGO?! I know, I can’t believe it either. It kind of makes me feel a little old, and I know it’s not THAT long ago, but still…

Since it’s #ThrowbackThursday I’ve decided to reminisce and share with you 20 of the greatest hits of 1997.  So grab your scrunchies, Lisa Frank Binders, and put on those Dr. Martens or Jelly Shoes and get ready for it!

Backstreet Boys – Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)

Oh these boys had every young girls of the 90’s wrapped around their fingers. This song managed to reach No. 2 on Billboards Hot 100.

Hanson – MMMBop

Without fail this song might have been the most catchy song of 1997. Admit it, the moment that chorus hit you already were singing it at the top of your lungs.

 Chumbawamba – Tubthumping

This was your go to song when you needed a pick-me-up, even if the lyrics made no sense at all. Like how many drinks can this guy really drink?

Smash Mouth – Walkin’ On The Sun

This was Smash Mouth’s debut single that reached #1 on Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Airplay singles chart.

 Spice Girls – Wannabe

THIS SONG! This song will NEVER EVER EVER get old! It’s my go to karaoke song EVERY SINGLE TIME! Plus you know you can’t help but sing along every time it comes on in your car.

Sugar Ray – Fly

This was Sugar Ray’s breakout hit, with the perfect blend of alternative rock & hip hop, there is no wonder why it reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Radio Songs list.

Usher – You Make Me Wanna

USHER! Oh how could you not love his face, body, and sweet sweet voice. You’d only wish that he could sing this song to you every single night before bed. I still wish it.

Savage Garden – Truly Madly Deeply

Savage Garden, the Australian pop band made every girl wish that her high school boyfriend would show up to her house blasting this from his boombox and confessing his love for her.

Will Smith – Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It

If you needed to get a party started, this was your go to song. There was no way anyone could resist jumping up and dancing to this.

OMC – How Bizzare

There is nothing to say, because this song is going to last on for forever!

Mariah Carey – Honey

This song debuted at No. 1 on Billboards Hot 100. This helped push Mariah into a legacy. There still is no one like Queen Mimi!

DJ Kool – Let Me Clear My Throat

If you needed a go to song for a dance battle, you’d definitely hear this. You can still catch this song playing every weekend in the clubs.

Daft Punk – Around The World

Yes, Daft Punk was around 20 years ago, some people might even say they started electric dance music.

Jewel – You Were Meant For Me

Oh Jewel, with your unique yodeling singing & random lyrics. This song had to make our list.

Aqua – Barbie Girl

For as big as this song was we’re a bit surprised that this song only made it to No. 7 in the Hot 100 list.

Puff Daddy feat. Mase – Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down (NSFW – Explicit Language)

“Don’t push us, ’cause we’re close to the, edge. We’re tryin’, not to lose our heads” was probably your response when the teacher tried to call you out in school. You know you had to say it because you had to keep up the Bad Boy reputation just like Puff Daddy.

Third Eye Blind – Semi-Charmed Life

Reaching No. 4, Third Eye Blind was easily hands down the hottest new band of 1997.

Mark Morrison – Return of the Mack

This song screams out 90’s nostalgia. Plus it also was No.2 on the Hot 100 list.

The Cardigans – Lovefool

This song was definitely intoxicating in 1997. You would hear this on every single radio station, but could never resist to turn it up and jam along.

The Notorious B.I.G. – Hypnotize  (NSFW – Explicit Language)

This was Biggie’s last song released in his lifetime before he tragically passed away in a drive-by-shooting. (RIP) He’ll forever live in our hearts.
This song was going to be the song that pushed his career to the next level.
