Over Labor Day weekend, one of my very favorite events of the year happened; The Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Festival. Shepherds from around the world bring their sheep-wrangling dogs to compete against one another in a herding competition. You have not lived until you’ve spent a few hours watching these incredible animals.
In addition to the herding competition, there is also a contest called “Splash Dogs.” An above-ground pool with a measuring tape is set up next to a 40′ ft.-long platform. Handlers throw toys into the pool and their dogs jump in after them. Wherever the dog’s nose lands on the measuring tape is the dog’s score. Again, it’s the most fun event in Utah. My favorite is the senior dog run. They may not be as spry as they used to be, but my word they still love jumping 😍
I couldn’t just sit around and watch the dogs compete. I had to get into the action. I took on a black lab puppy named Chaos. Who won? Check out the video below to find out.
