Oxford Is Adding “Sausage Party,” “Craptacular,” and “Squad Goals” to the Dictionary
The bar that a word has to clear to get into the dictionary seems to keep getting lower and lower. Earlier this month, Merriam-Webster added words like “face palm,” “throw shade,” and “weak sauce.”
Well . . . not to be outdone, Oxford Dictionaries just announced a whole bunch of stupid words THEY’RE adding. Here are some of their choices . . .
1. cat lady, “an older woman who lives alone with a large number of cats, to which she is thought to be obsessively devoted.”
2. craptacular, “remarkably poor or disappointing.”
3. drink the haterade, “indulge in excessively negative, critical, or resentful behavior.”
4. drunk text, “a text message sent while drunk, typically embarrassing or foolish.”
5. jelly, “jealous.”
6. sausage party, “an event or group in which the majority of the participants are male.”
7. squad goals, “a person or thing seen as a model to aspire to or emulate, especially with one’s friends.”
8. yas, “expressing great pleasure or excitement.”
Are “Negan” Shirts from “The Walking Dead” Racist?
Remember all the controversy over that “Walking Dead” episode where Negan bashed Glenn and Abraham’s brains in with his barbed wire baseball bat? Well, it just got controversial AGAIN.
Negan actually chose his victims “Eeny Meeny Miny Moe”-style. And ever since then, there have been T-shirts with bloody baseball bats and the phrase “Eeny Meeny Miny Moe” on them.
Well, a British man name Ian Lucraft saw one in a U.K. clothing store and he FREAKED . . . because he thinks it’s RACIST. In fact, he raised such a fuss that the store got rid of the shirt. Confused?
Everybody knows the rhyme goes “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe / Catch a TIGER by the toe.” That’s how kids have said it for years and years . . . and that’s what Negan says on the show.
But there’s another version that goes way back to a far less enlightened time in our history. It replaces “tiger” with the N-WORD. And yes, kids to this day probably still say it. Hopefully a lot less than they did in the 19th Century, though.
Anyway, that’s why Lucraft called the shirt “fantastically offensive.”
And his wife went even further . . . quote, “It is directly threatening of a racist assault, and if I were black and were faced by a wearer I would know just where I stood.”
The question is, are they overreacting? The shirt hasn’t caused any issues in the U.S. yet. In fact, a version of it is still available at the official “Walking Dead” online shop.
