In an emergency meeting this morning, the Board of Governors over The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has voted to remove producer Harvey Weinstein from The Academy. The 54-year-old movie giant has faced a series of mounting sexual assault allegations in the past few days.
The board, which includes film legends such as Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Whoopi Goldberg, and Laura Dern, said in a statement “…the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexually predatory behavior and workplace harassment in our industry is over.” Read the board’s full statement below.
