After the success of the 2002 Winter Olympic games in Salt Lake City, we’ve been hungry for another shot at it. But is it really possible in the near future?
According to a decision from the U.S. Olympic Committee yesterday, yes. The USOC informed the International Olympics Committee that U.S. cities will be allowed to submit bids to host the 2026 and 2030 games.

The IOC will award the 2026 and 2030 games at the same time. While SLC’s 2026 bid is possible, it’s unlikely. The 2028 summer games have already been awarded to Los Angeles and according to Deseret News, domestic sponsorships have already been locked up by LA. The USCO has requested that U.S. Cities focus on the 2030 bid.
Denver and Reno-Tahoe are also expected to compete for the games. IOC will make a final decision by September 2019.
