Nuns Are Out to Get Katy Perry
Katy Perry recently made a $14.5 million deal to purchase a hilltop property that was once the convent of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. But the sisters had their own sale pending to a restaurateur for $15.5 million. Things are getting messy as the archbishop argues with the sisters over who actually has the right to sell the property. Perry even made a personal bid to be the new owner, meeting with the sisters and singing the gospel tune “Oh Happy Day” to them. The sisters were not impressed. “Our days have not been happy since then, I can assure you.” said Sister Rita Callanan. “We have already entered and accepted the offer from Miss Perry. The Archbishop has made a promise to care for the sisters, and we want to do what’s best for them.” A spokesperson for the archdiocese said. “God help us, we are going to fight this!” said Sister Callahan. The holy battle wages on! Get more here.
Sesame Street’s Maria Is Retiring After 44 Years
Sonia Manzano played Maria (of the Fix-It shop) for more than four decades, is retiring from the beloved children’s program. While Sesame Street has yet to comment, Manzano has been consoling fans on Twitter, even suggesting that she could return at some point.
@cahuenga23 Maybe I’ll go back for 50th anniversary and make a guest appearance! Gracias!
— Sonia Manzano (@SoniaMManzano) July 1, 2015
Sonia asked fans not to be bummed about the news, which is probably going to be harder to do than it sounds. Manzano joined the cast of Sesame Street in 1971, playing a then-teenaged Maria. The character went on to co-own the Fix-It Shop with husband Luis (Emilio Delgado).
Over the course of her tenure on the series as a writer and actress, Manzano has won 15 Emmys. Get more here.
