Jay Z Launches Tidal – A New Streaming Service

Jay Z offically launched his streaming service that’s supposed to change the way we listen to music. Seemingly every music powerhouse was attended the event: Beyoncé, Kanye West, Madonna, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj, Alicia Keys, Usher, J. Cole, Jack White, Arcade Fire, and Daft Punk to name a few, were present to sign a declaration. Tidal will offer CD-quality audio and video but uses no free ad-supported service. The streaming service will offer monthly subscriptions — $19.95 for high quality streaming and $9.95 for standard quality. The service has deals with all of the major record labels, and even the anti-Spotify Taylor Swift, is on board. In an interview with Billboard, Jay explained that the goal of Tidal was to produce a streaming service that appropriately compensated the artist. The rapper had this to say on if the artists would be making more money on Tidal than on Spotify: “Will artists make more money? Even if it means less profit for our bottom line, absolutely. That’s easy for us. We can do that. Less profit for our bottom line, more money for the artist; fantastic. Let’s do that today.” Get the full story here.
