Eminem, Janet Jackson, and N.W.A Among 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame Nominees
Rap icon Eminem and R&B legend Janet Jackson headline the 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame nominees, a roster that celebrates diverse contributions to music. Of the 26 nominees—solo songwriters and collaborative teams—only six will be inducted during a ceremony in New York City on June 12, 2025.
The Contenders
The nominees are split between two categories: performing songwriters and non-performing songwriters. Three inductees will emerge from each group. Eminem, already a trailblazer with an Oscar win for “Lose Yourself,” competes in the performing category, alongside Janet Jackson, Sheryl Crow, and Alanis Morissette. These powerhouse artists are joined by the legendary hip-hop group N.W.A., comprising Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, MC Ren, and DJ Yella.

Non-performing nominees include prolific collaborators such as Steve Barri and P.F. Sloan, Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, and Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham. Also in contention are Ashley Gorley and Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, two of the youngest nominees at 47.
Legacy and Innovation
The ballot spans genres and eras, honoring living legends and posthumous contributors. Among the deceased nominees are Eazy-E, who passed in 1995, and P.F. Sloan, who died in 2015. Female songwriters make a notable showing, with four nominees: Jackson, Morissette, Franne Golde, and Crow.
A Celebration of Craft
The Songwriters Hall of Fame induction is one of the most prestigious honors for music creators, spotlighting the artistry behind the hits. This year’s nominees reflect the evolving landscape of music, from groundbreaking rap and R&B to timeless pop and rock.
Fans and industry professionals alike eagerly await the final six selections, set to be revealed ahead of the June ceremony. With only six slots available, competition is fierce, making the 2025 inductees a tightly curated representation of songwriting excellence.
