MMA Fighter Beats Up Man Who Tried to Mug Her

MMA Fighter Monique Bastos was on her way home from jiu-jitsu training with two friends on when two men attacked the group and demanded they hand over their mobile phones. Bad move. One of the men was able to escape, but Bastos had the other in a rear-naked choke before forcing him to the footpath and applying a triangle choke. “I was going to my jiu-jitsu training when they arrived on a motorcycle and said they wanted our phones,” Bastos told MMAFighting.com. “I tried to hold my phone, and I realized they were not armed. When they tried to escape, I lifted the rear wheel of the bike and they fell on the ground. The guy who took my phone ran away, but I was able to get the other one.” Bastos held the man, identified as Wesley Sousa de Araujo, for 15 minutes until police arrived to arrest him. Bastos says stick-ups are a regular occurrence on the streets of Acailandia. “I’ve been through this a few times before, and it’s the second time I fought back. There were two guys, and they were using knives, but I was able to use my jiu-jitsu and get my phone back. It’s a huge risk, but I did it to defend myself and my friends, so I used what I learned.” Get more here.

A Guy Fakes His Own Kidnapping to Get His Ex’s Attention

42-year-old Robert Groomer of Ardmore, Oklahoma really wanted to get his ex wife in Natchitoches, Louisiana to pay attention to him. So a few weeks ago, he faked his own kidnapping. He even set up fake social media profiles for the kidnappers, and posted photos of himself tied up online. He also tipped off the media in Natchitoches that he’d been kidnapped, and the police started investigating. But his ex didn’t seem to care, so he blew up her house. Fortunately he put his bombs in the back and she was asleep in the front, so she wasn’t hurt. Then he called the local media to complain they weren’t covering the bombing OR the kidnapping well enough. And that’s when the cops put it all together and figured out what was going on. They tracked down Robert at his house in Oklahoma, and arrested him for attempted murder and arson. In his defense, we’re thinking his ex couldn’t ignore him after all that. So… mission accomplished? Get more here.
