Most of us have exes, and they’re bound to come up at some point in your relationship. But when is it safe?
I met a guy on an online dating site, and we hit it off on our first date. But by the third date I knew something weird was going on. We were out to lunch, and he mentioned his ex-girlfriend. It was totally out of the blue, but it felt weird that he was complaining about her already.
Then he started mentioning her more and more. After two months I found out they lived together . . . dated for a year . . . and broke up not long before he met me.
He swore that he was over her, and like an idiot, I believed him. He started talking about her all the time, and I knew I had to cut the cord. After I broke up with him, they got back together.
To me it was a cautionary tale to look out for those red flags early in a relationship. If they’re whining about an ex on the third date . . . watch out.
