Kristen is feeling irked by something her fiance did:
My sister got engaged this year, and before her fiancé proposed, he asked our dad for permission. I told my boyfriend that I didn’t like that, because I’m not my dad’s “property”, and it seems like a really outdated tradition. Well, my boyfriend proposed to me last week. I’m ecstatic to be engaged, but I’m bothered by one thing: He DID ask my dad for his blessing. Why would my fiancé ask my dad when he knew I didn’t want him to? Is this a stupid thing to be mad about? Kristen, 30What do you think?
Is asking a woman’s father for permission to propose old-school and outdated? Or is it a sign of respect?
