The FDA has authorized the first home COVID-19 test available over-the-counter without a prescription.
The kit, from Australian-based company Ellume, uses a nasal swab and a digital analyzer that connects to a smartphone app via Bluetooth. Results can be delivered in as little as 20 minutes with roughly 96 percent accuracy.
The Ellume COVID-19 Home Test will begin retailing in January at a cost of $30 or less.
