Day 5 Olympic Update

Highlights from Day 5 of the Winter Olympics!

Shaun White won his THIRD Olympic Gold medal in men’s halfpipe last night.  He was in second place going into his final run and NAILED it.  He ended up with a 97.75 and won by more than two points.

Shaun’s win was also the ONE-HUNDREDTH Gold medal the U.S. has won all time in the Winter Olympics.

We’ve won 29 in speed skating . . . 16 in alpine skiing . . . 15 in figure skating . . . 15 in snowboarding . . . 8 in freestyle skiing . . . 7 in bobsled . . . 4 in short track . . . 3 in hockey . . . 3 in skeleton . . . and 1 in Nordic combined.

There were two pretty scary CRASHES yesterday.  Emily Sweeney from the U.S. lost control of her sled in women’s luge . . . got SIDEWAYS . . . and then pinballed off both walls.  Luckily she was alright.

The U.S. women’s hockey team beat Russia yesterday, 5 to 0.  And forward Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson set an Olympic record by scoring back-to-back goals in just SIX SECONDS.  We’re still a week away from the medal round in that one.

And the U.S. was in fifth place with 7.  But 4 of those are Gold.
