Dua Lipa Shines on SNL: Debuts “Illusion” & “Happy for You”

Over the weekend, Dua Lipa took center stage on Saturday Night Live as both host and musical guest. The pop star brought her A-game to NBC’s iconic late-night show, introducing the audience to two songs from her new album Radical Optimism: “Illusion” and “Happy for You.” Before each track, Dua Lipa was introduced by special guests Troye Sivan and Jerry Seinfeld, respectively.

Musical Performances and Introduction

Troye Sivan set the stage for “Illusion,” a single that showcases Dua Lipa’s signature blend of catchy melodies and empowering lyrics. Later, Jerry Seinfeld welcomed the audience before her “Happy for You” performance, a reflective album closer. Both songs gave viewers a glimpse of Radical Optimism’s sound and vibe.

Sketch Comedy Highlights

In addition to the musical numbers, Dua Lipa took part in eight different sketches. She showcased her comedic versatility, from her opening monologue poking fun at her internet meme “Go, girl, give us nothing,” to participating in a staged Q&A session. She also portrayed a culture critic dissecting the ongoing Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar rivalry. She also appeared in a jingle pitch meeting, an Elephant Man parody and a rap session gone awry.

Pre-Release Promotions and Movie Roles

In anticipation of her album Radical Optimism, Dua Lipa expanded her creative reach by appearing in two major movies. She starred in Argylle and the summer blockbuster Barbie, the latter featuring her song “Dance the Night.” Furthermore, she took control of her music by securing the rights to her publishing catalog.
