Utah Man Bites Officer, Claims He’s a Lion
34-year-old Martin Lee Hoogveldt has a history with the West Jordan Police department. He filed a civil rights lawsuit against the department last year after being bit by a police k-9. Martin had set his neighbor’s garbage can on fire and threatened him with a knife. Now a year later, police tried to pull martin over, because they recognized him and knew he was unlicensed. Martin reached his hand out of his window and gave cops the peace sign, then took off. Police stopped the chase when the speeds became dangerous. They later found martin hanging out in his car smoking marijuana. They tried to arrest him, but martin became combative and began kicking and hitting officers. Then he started biting the officer while screaming that he was a lion. He was charged with failing to stop at the command of an officer, assault on a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, interfering with an arresting officer, driving on a revoked license, and not having insurance.
