Utah Native Nathan Chen Falls During Olympic Debut

Nathan Chen, currently competing in the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, is the U.S. gold medal favorite for men’s figure skating.

How do you become an Olympic champ? Take ballet, have supportive teachers, and it doesn’t hurt to grow up in Utah.

18-year-old Chen has long been considered the favorite for a U.S. gold in men’s figure skating. But after last night’s performance, that dream got a little more distant. Chen fell wiped out in his short program, though he got up quickly and finished the routine. He earned a score of 80.61.

He said that the problem was mental and after apologizing to the U.S. team stated, “I will have to readjust ahead of the individual event.”

Does he have what it takes? Can’t wait to find out.

Check out his background package. How many of these places do you recognize?
