Doja Cat: VMAs 2023 Showcase

At the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, the stage was set ablaze by Doja Cat’s fiery performance. Dressed in a sharp business suit, she began her set with Scarlet’s “Attention,” a track that has garnered nominations for Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and the coveted Video of the Year. Her backup dancers, strikingly painted in red, added to the visual spectacle as she confidently made her way through the audience.

Transitioning Through Hits

Without missing a beat, Doja Cat transitioned into her hit “Paint the Town Red.” Mid-performance, she shed her jacket and seamlessly moved into “Demons,” where a well-coordinated dance routine took center stage, accompanied by papers swirling in the air. The entire performance showed her versatility and stage presence. Watch the performance below:

A Year of Recognition for Doja Cat

2023 has been a significant year for Doja Cat, with a total of five VMA nominations. These include the prestigious Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration for her track “I Like You (A Happier Song)” featuring the talented Post Malone. Reflecting on her journey, in the previous year, she clinched the Best Choreography award for “Woman.” This was on the heels of her 2021 wins for Best Collaboration with “Kiss Me More” and Best Art Direction for “Best Friend.”

Charting Her Musical Journey

Doja Cat’s musical evolution has been evident since her releases after her 2021 album Planet Her. Starting with “Attention” in June, she continued to captivate her audience with “Paint the Town Red,” a track that intriguingly samples the legendary Dionne Warwick. “Demons” followed suit. However, August saw a slight hiccup when she unveiled an album cover resembling a German metal band’s LP artwork. Despite both designs being crafted by the same artist, Doja Cat promptly introduced a fresh cover design.
